Mental Health and Wellbeing
At Northleaze Primary School we believe that mental health and wellbeing are the basis for a happy and successful life at school and beyond. We are committed to promoting positive mental health for all our children, staff and families. We strive to create a sense of security within our school community and to ensure that every child feels nurtured and supported, whatever they may be feeling or facing.
The Department for Education outlines the importance of promoting and supporting good mental health in schools. Good mental health and wellbeing helps children and young people:
- develop
- attend school
- engage in learning
- fulfil their potential
Northleaze contributes to positive mental health and wellbeing by providing:
- a safe, calm and supportive learning environment
- early targeted support for pupils and learners who need help
- PSHE lessons which discuss topics such as being different, our dreams and goals, relationships, changes in our bodies and being healthy
- a cosy nuture den for quiet reflection with books that cover a variety of topics including managing emotions
- anti bullying ambassadors to help resolve friendship issues
- whole-school assemblies which talk about our school’s values to help children become genuinely kind and inspirational individuals
We also use opportunities like Children’s Mental Health Week and World Mental Health Awareness Day to emphasise the importance of mental health and remind the children of strategies to help identify how they are feeling and address needs as they arise.
We encourage you to talk to the head, class teacher or contact Camille Lambert camille.lambert@northleazeschool.co.uk about mental health concerns. You can also find further information and support through the following organisations:
